Kerry Wood: Enjoying retirement

Oh, the joys of retired life.  You know the feeling—downing a few beers, smoking a cigarette or two, hanging out with legendary hockey players and rockstars.

Ok, maybe you don’t know what it’s like and never will, but Kerry Wood sure does.

Sunday night, at Stanley’s in Chicago, Kerry Wood was spotted in the background as Pearl Jam vocalist Eddie Vedder and former Blackhawks legend Chris Chelios belted out a karaoke version of “The Weight”.

Makes you wonder if Wood is, in fact, a smoker, or whether he “just smokes when he drinks.”  Either way, it’s good to see the kid enjoying himself.

Kerry Wood’s retirement: A moment reserved for losers?

Now that Kerry Wood has packed his bags and ridden off in the proverbial sunset, seemingly everyone with an interest in Chicago sports has sounded off on the moment that was Wood’s last on a Major League Baseball field.  Though the vast majority of observers felt the moment to be of a heart-warming nature, several have labeled the event as being unnecessary; over-the-top even.

Every time I see Starlin Castro make an error on a routine play or half-heartedly jog to first base on a batted ball I can’t help but blame Aramis Ramirez.

We’ve reached a new level of dismal, Cubs fans.  For the first time in many years, the Chicago Cubs appear to be dedicated to a complete reconstruction of the organization.  With the arrival of Theo Epstein, Jed Hoyer and company, the Cubs have made a commitment to the future and what appears to be a commitment to youth.

And what confirms the Cubs rebuilding status more than an early-season record of 5-12 and a last place standing?
