A Cubs celebration for… Edwin Jackson?

So Edwin Jackson was officially announced Wednesday as part of the the 2013 Cubs roster.

Is it just me, or is anyone else wildly confused with the signing of Jackson?

Sure, the Cubs need pitchers – more accurately, innings eaters – but why Jackson? Granted, he’s accumulated a ton of innings over the past few seasons, but he’s been wildly mediocre and, as a result, has played for seven teams in nine seasons.
I’m not necessarily against acquiring low reward players during this current rebuilding phase, but why celebrate it with a welcoming press conference?

It’s not like Theo Epstein and Jed Hoy...

Cubs fall short in crackdown on season ticket holders

The Cubs decided Wednesday to crack down on season ticket holders who purchase tickets for the sole purpose of reselling them at a higher profit.

While I’m all for the idea of maintaining the face value of tickets to all types of events, the Cubs could have done one better and terminated their partnership—or at least voiced their intention to work with Major League Baseball towards dissolving their partnership—with world-class ticket scalper StubHub...

Forgiving Alfonso Soriano

Not all that long ago, I had great disdain for Alfonso Soriano.  He was an overpaid, underproducing waste of space with bad knees and a reputation for failing in the clutch. Who could blame me (or anyone) for feeling he was one of the biggest reasons for the continued futility of the Chicago Cubs?  He was a seemingly selfish, free-swinging cancer of sorts in the middle of the Cubs lineup...

Starlin Castro signs 7-year, $60M deal. Yikes.

After what was aptly labeled by several media outlets as “peaceful negations”, it appears Starlin Castro will most-likely be a Chicago Cub for the next seven years.  As what is probably the best young homegrown piece of talent the Cubs have seen since the inception of the MLB draft, it’s a no-brainer the Cubs would want to ensure his employment in Chicago for a significant amount of time.

While I don’t necessarily disagree with the amount of money Castro will be receiving for his duties—$60 million seems fair—the idea of employing Castro for such a long time seems a little on the scary side...
